Tackling Youth Homelessness with Second Shot mobile coffee vans

Pauls Professional, the dedicated foodservice channel milk brand from Lactalis Foodservice is proud to have joined forces with charity organisation Second Shot to help make a difference in the community.

Second Shot are a Brisbane based social enterprise that delivers real outcomes by providing employment for young homeless people.  The Second Shot program’s focus is on coffee retailing and aims to tackle youth homelessness by training, employing and supporting young homeless people to manage a fleet of mobile coffee vans.

Every team member is provided an income, barista training, mobile coffee van and financial management support.  After 6 months they have experience and an improved financial position, and are ready to move to other employment opportunities.  Second Shot help provide real life skills to break the cycle of homelessness.

Lactalis Foodservice are supporting Second Shot through the supply of the Pauls milk it requires for use in their coffees.  As one of Australia’s largest dairy suppliers, giving back to the community is critically important to us and is core to our values as a business.

Second Shot is led passionately by CEO James Christie, with the idea for the program created through his involvement with the not for profit sector as a consultant with Brisbane based Social Scaffolding, and his belief that there can be more effective ways of tackling our society’s major challenges.

‘We empower the homeless with skills, a meaningful job and support to get back on their feet. By providing professional training, employment and support, we give our young Team Members an opportunity to have a second shot at life.’ James Christie – CEO Second Shot
