Farm/Farmer Sustainability

Lactalis is dedicated to forming strong relationships with Australian dairy farmers, and currently sources milk from over 680 farms across Australia, with some of these partnerships longer than 20 years

We have an active involvement in farm business environmental programs to ensure the health of our water, land and air to ensure the ongoing sustainable growth and profitability of the Australian dairy industry.  We are active members of the steering committee of the Australian Dairy Industry Sustainability Framework.  This initiative targets an industry wide commitment to increasing prosperity for the dairy industry and communities, caring for people and animals, and minimising our environmental footprint.

Lactalis have also undertaken an on-farm pilot program using a number of Australian developed assessment tools, including DGAS (Dairy Greenhouse Gas Abatement Strategies calculator), DairySAT (Dairy Self-assessment Tool) and Fert$mart, a process of which tests farmers soil to maximise the benefits of promoting healthy soil and grass growth while using the minimum application of fertilizer.

We have an active involvement with the Australian rural community, including sponsoring numerous events such as the Nowra Show, the Hunter Holstein Show, the Taree Regional Show, the Robertson Regional Show and even the Australian Wife Carrying competition at the Singleton Show.

Internal dashboards are used to measure our key sustainability indicators are communicated to internal and external stakeholders via the Lactalis Sustainability Report.
